ManhwaSync Privacy Policy

ManhwaSync is a browser extension that helps you track your manhwa reading progress, get chapter notifications, and connect with friends. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

1. Data We Collect

Account information

• Username and email address — provided during registration
• Password — used for authentication only, never stored in plaintext locally

Manhwa library data

• Titles, chapter numbers, reading progress, and genres of manhwa you track
• URLs of manhwa reading sites you visit (used to detect which series and chapter you are on)
• Cover images fetched from MangaUpdates for display purposes

Social data

• Your friends list and friend requests
• Your reading list is visible to users you have added as friends

Bug reports and feature requests

• Title, description, and optional steps to reproduce that you submit through the extension

Browser history (limited)

• When you enable "Workplace Mode," the extension deletes specific manhwa site URLs from your browser history. It never reads or collects your browsing history.

2. Data We Do NOT Collect

• Health, financial, or payment information
• Location data or IP addresses
• Personal communications (emails, messages)
• Keystroke logging, mouse tracking, or other user activity monitoring
• Website content beyond manhwa title and chapter text on supported sites
• General browsing history or data from non-manhwa websites

3. How We Use Your Data

• Authentication — to create and manage your account
• Library sync — to save and sync your manhwa reading progress across sessions
• Notifications — to alert you when new chapters are available
• Social features — to let you connect with friends and view each other's reading lists
• Bug reports — to address issues and respond to your feedback

4. Third-Party Services

• Convex — cloud backend for storing your account, library, and social data
• MangaUpdates API — used to fetch manhwa metadata (genres, chapter counts, cover images). No personal user data is sent to MangaUpdates.
• Sentry — error tracking to help us fix bugs. Only anonymized error data is sent; no personal information is included.

5. Data Storage

• Locally — your manhwa library, settings, and authentication token are stored on your device using the Chrome Storage API
• Remotely — your account data, library, friends, and notifications are stored on our Convex backend
• Session tokens (JWT) are stored locally and used to authenticate requests to the backend

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes. Data is only shared with the third-party services listed above, solely to provide the extension's functionality.

7. Your Rights

• You can delete your account and all associated data at any time
• You can remove individual manhwa from your library
• You can disable workplace mode to stop any interaction with browser history
• You can uninstall the extension at any time, which stops all data collection. Local data is removed upon uninstall.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
